World number one Carlos Alcaraz made a winning start to the French Open by thrashing Italian qualifier Flavio Cobolli in straight sets 6-0, 6-2, 7-5 in the first round to give his opponents a warning. Alcaraz has been ranked top in the French Open.   

The 20-year-old Alcaraz, who did not play in the Australian Open due to a foot injury in January this year, looked in full color in his first Grand Slam match and dominated Koboli from the first set. Alcaraz, who won the Madrid and Barcelona Open on clay court this year, was given a little challenge by the Italian player in the third set, but the Spanish player won this set as well. Alcaraz will face Japan's Taro Daniel in the second round, who defeated Australia's Christopher O'Connell 6-0, 6-2, 6-4 in the first round.
