Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed grief over the death of people in a road accident in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday and announced compensation for the families of the deceased. 10 pilgrims were killed and 66 others injured after a bus bound for Vaishno Devi fell into a gorge after hitting the 'railing' of a bridge in Jammu district on Tuesday. The bus was going from Amritsar to Kattra when the accident took place in Jhajjar Kotli area between 6.30 am and 7 am on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway.
Kattra is the base camp for the famous Vaishnava Devi shrine located atop the Trikuta hills. In a tweet issued by the Prime Minister's Office, it was said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi while expressing grief over the deaths in the bus accident in Jammu and Kashmir, the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund has announced to give a compensation amount of Rs. 2 lakh to the family of each deceased. 50 thousand rupees will be given to each injured person.
